The new cool
If you asked me a couple of years ago to pick randomly anything from a clothing store, or a statement piece I’d need to wear everyday, I’d be back in less than a minute with a little elegant dress right above the knee. I never wore jeans, trousers were close to a nightmare and I didn’t even consider the word “casual”. It simply never existed in my vocabulary. Things changed quite a lot to this day! The first thing I usually pick up when shopping are some plane basics just because you can never have enough and they’re the best investment : always useful, always pretty and feeling comfortable just makes us all happy now doesn’t it?
I use to spend tons of money getting random stuff from Zara or H&M. Thinking, yes I do need this pineapple printed yellow silk top (that I’ll only wear once because I’ll grow tired of it…) as well as those mint shoes that hurt but are so pretty. No. No and triple no. I guess my shopping skills matured a little bit and so instead of ruining myself on tons of little things that will not last, I’ll prefer investing on key pieces that’ll make me so happy to wear. But don’t get me wrong, I still love Zara. I’ll just tend to get some basics for the seasons there instead on splurging on all and nothing.
My strategy now is to find the right materials. A good fabric is everything. I’ve noticed when packing that I always tend to take the best stuff with me, just because a good quality sweater will arrive at it’s destination without being completely messed up like a viscose top which will have all the folding lines on it. I have some shirts that I paid something like 30$ that are im-po-ssible to wear because even if I iron them, in the middle of the day, they’ll get all wrinkly.
So yes now, I am much more picky and my shopping rhythm definitely diminished. I’m saving up money and thanks to this strategy am able to afford from time to time some designer statements like these adorable Chanel pearl flats that I’ve had on my radar. I keep wearing them all the time, feeling so comfy and pretty having them on. We were talking about how my shopping habits changed, well my personal style did too and I am now all about casual wear actually. Playing it cool, laid back and effortless is as much as an “art” as dressing up all glam.
If I used to wear heels almost every single day, I am now preaching the flat. Literally. I was kind of tired of making my body go through all of this, I mean walking on heels all day, even if you’re good at it, isn’t that healthy for the legs and the feet. I now swear by comfy jeans, white tops, a bun on the head and THE perfect details that will make the whole difference. Needless to say that this Sonia Rykiel jacket is everything. So chic, it ads the perfect touch to this look that I wore in Paris before dinner at the restaurant “Le Derrière” with the Net A Porter team. Casual is definitely the new cool.

beautiful post, so simple and elegant.
gorgeous outfit! xhttp://my--socalledlife.blogspot.com.es/
Parfaite comme toujours!
Our similarities you describe in this article are so striking, I had to giggle from paragraph to paragraph because I couldn't believe how similar we are! I NEVER wore trousers before I started my blog and I owned like two pairs of jeans for the rare cases a dress or skirt was really inappropriate. Oh and the heels – once I started working (in retail) I stopped wearing them altogether, in fact I really only put them on for photo shoots and events, the rest of the time I rely on 100% leather flats and sandals ;)
I love your outfit, you are so pretty too!!http://collarsandpolish.blogspot.com/

Addictions to Shopping
Gorgeous outfit, you look amazing :)
I love this look. I recently adopted a more comfortable style as of lately, especially with it being summer and being out and about more. I love a good pair of heels but you're totally right on it not being too healthy to wear every day. I have been more on the lookout for comfortable, functionable yet still fashionable flats. My favourite piece in this outfit is definitely your jacket though... its stunning!
So beautiful! And I totally agree with the investments and stuff! Although I still have half of my wardrobe from Zara hahahaha!
In love with this outfit, a basic all white outfit can do wonders for some people!

In my opinion you are always classy and that is why I found your blog inspiring and different from all the other. YOu can wear even casual item but you still add that ladylike Grace Kelly kind of elegance.http://www.distinguisheddiva.com/
You have quite literally taken the words out of my mouth with that post, I used to live in dresses & complicated skirts that were so un-versatile that after 2 or 3 wears i would be tired. You look phenomenal so this new approach is obviously working for you, keep it uphttp://www.icomeundone.com

I'm in love with this outfit, so simple and so gorgeos! x
Beautiful look! I love your basic and still soo chic looks since you always manage to pair it with a piece that dresses it up like this jacket and the pearls on your shoes in this specific outfit <3
I love this jacket. Jeans are definitely a great summer staple. I'm big on sundresses personally.http://www.lookfortheoccasion.com
WEAR EAT LOVE
I completely agree with you! It's better to buy one quality piece then 10 bad ones. If you can.... My shopping habits changed with years. I buy less but I choose well. One time I was orginizing my wardrobe and I gave away a lots of clothes I have worn only once or twice. It was waste of money. Quality lasts. And I adoreeee flats!
WEAR EAT LOVE
These days I am more about the comfort and the casual style too. It can still be chic though as you proved here ;)

I completely agree with you about that whole post !
I only wore dresses and skirts, and now this is all about jeans.
I care much more about the cut and material than whether it's fashionable or not.
And I have those Chanel shoes :)
Great post !
Lovely outfit as always
Such an amazing look! So effortlessly chic! :)
Chic look, love the jacket!!

LOVE this post! Your outfit is amazing and I absolutely agree: Basic clothes are a must-have!

I can relate completely to the change in shopping habits you're describing! Lately I just think that I want to wear clothes to live in - sweaters, jeans, flats. You make anything look amazing anyway, and I love this outfit!
I go for quality fabric and interesting shapes. Basics are dull for me for now.
You always look so fabulous with a white look. This jacket is beautiful and these sandals are amazing.
Definitely agree with the above! Less sometimes is more!
I know exactly what you mean about the shift to more simple ensembles. I have had the same experience with my own personal style maturing. The only worry is that sometimes it get's too plain. My rule is if it is good quality a simple T-shirt and jeans can look stunning and chic. Also got to make sure that hair and make up and nails are on point to elevate the more casual ensembles.http://www.hanjanran.com/

I need these shoes! So pretty!http://www.bloglovin.com/en/blog/4487669
i think you've become so superficial and spoiled with all your travels and gifts. I used to loooooove and adore your blog but now its just like every other blog. Like Chiara's for example. Your photos are always perfect, thanks to James who has developed his skills so much. I still love your outfits and I still think you are amazingly beautiful, but please, come back down to earth :)
Wow jacket and flatforms are gorgeous!http://trendenciesblog.wordpress.com
That jacket is GORGEOUS and your Chanel flats are to die for ! I don't know how you used to walk in heels. Then again you have Russian blood in you,so I know girls there live in heels !

You look beautiful as always Kristina! Lovely outfit and details!!http://www.stylelaboratoire.blogspot.com
I agree, I love the effortless, Parisian vibe that dressing casual gives.
mmm these flats !! hyper versatile
Your outfit is so chic, as always! Love it!
Most inspiring lady!! - nothing more to add. :-)

I agree, it's better to have one good-quality piece that you can wear years & years than five low-quality ones that last less than a year.
I still like your (more casual) style, but I prefered elegant one more :)
Gorgeous style ! Love the jacket and lovely photos too!
Outstanding photos!! Love your jacket, it's a gorgeous piece!
What a brilliant article Kristina, everything you've said is absolutely on point. Casual doesn't have to mean scruffy and basics don't have to be boring. It's all about the interesting cuts and luxurious fabrics! Definitely quality over quantity any day.
Love it ❤️
It's About L.A
Nice outfit, I love the jacket and the clutch is so lovely!
This is such a pretty casual yet chic look! You are absolutely right - good quality pieces are loved and looked after by us so much more and they are nicer to wear too, although a quirky thing from zara now and again is also good! I adore the jacket you are wearing - it's like a cardigan and goes perfect with your summer whites! Simply gorgeous!

I can say that my shopping habbits changed in the same way. I used to buy only uncomfortable, beautiful but useless stuff and now I'm so much smarter when I go shopping. Now when I can't take off my comfy flats, I can't believe that I used to wear only high heels everyday to school! I guess we just grew up :)
And your outfit is absolutelly stunning!
So so beautiful, the pictures are amazing :D
